In a single year the CEOs of the 15 largest oil companies made off with over half a trillion dollars (and that's just the CEOs).

Although certainly those results are affected by factors such as price (largely established by speculators) the primary determinant is, if course, sales volumes. The more oil they sell, the more money those senior managers make.

So, it is little wonder that, protestations of innocence and 'green' rhetoric notwithstanding, the oil companies are prepared to 'invest' millions every year in countering the evidence for climate change and lobbying for exemptions from environmental restrictions.

It is generally agreed, at least among most independent scientists, that oil has peaked - future oil supplies will be more costly to extract.

However, anyone familiar with the history of the oil industry recognizes the boom and bust nature of that business, and that industry's constant and repeated excesses.

'Climate change' is not a factor in this year's financial results at the oil companies, selling as much oil as possible is. Even if it means funding campaigns of disinformation.

Although the oil companies are not alone in the campaign to discredit legitimate climate change science, they are certainly among the greatest offenders.Madeyehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02593933575568389288noreply@blogger.com
