And yes, I did say that the taxi driver was innocent, although I guess it was not totally clear from the movie. But just going by his actions: he did not explode a car bomb (or maybe that was because the detonator failed, it was not explained in the movie). Also he did not do anything that would suggest he was a suicide terrorist.

And I guess you have a point that I have no experience of war myself. Do you need war experience to know that the taxi driver would have been shot (in a real situation, not a movie setup) before getting through the checkpoint? I may not have much experience with war, but I have been through many military checkpoints as a civilian. I never got shot doing it, though.Lost Motorcyclisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08873504561959138792noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2156536327610779049.post-84372532345139756312011-12-29T22:41:26.959-05:002011-12-29T22:41:26.959-05:00One you mispelled "Sergeant", two, corre...One you mispelled "Sergeant", two, correct me if I'm wrong, you think the taxi driver is a normal taxi driver and not an insurgent? I feel as if you are demeaning a film that you yourself, (and again forgive me if I'm wrong),have no experience about. You weren't in war, or know the rush combat can bring a person. Now I know for a fact movies are not always the most "realistic" as you most obviously implore, but I put the Hurt Locker in one of my top favorite films, one because it is a very well directed film, two it also is quite possible the most realistic movie that isn't "pro" anything. There is two sides to the film, the version that people who weren't involved in war, and the others who actually can relate to the characters Sanborn, Eldridge, and James. However all that being said; it is nice to see a fairly "negative" review of the film, as many others were in favor of the movie. Though it seems your "hippie-carefree-peace loving self" would prefer Avatar due to its message conveying Peace. Not to mention that Avatar also can be taken as the creatures being native americans and the humans being the europeans.

Sincerely, a 15 year old boy.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2156536327610779049.post-83527794483267470742010-03-10T11:02:24.779-05:002010-03-10T11:02:24.779-05:00Any 'war' film made contemporaneous to an ...Any 'war' film made contemporaneous to an actual war in progress is, to a greater or lesser degree, bound to be propaganda.

Hurt Locker premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2008 and there was quite a bit of discussion after that screening - none of which suggested to me that this was 'Best Film' material. And none of which motivated me to view to the film (as I still have not).

But, as you point out, its underlying theme appears to be that American troops are in Iraq for some 'good purpose' - dramatizing the 'reality' of 'When in doubt, kill 'em' would work against that message.

Although the preponderance of reviews have been favourable (as, evidently, has the opinion of the membership of the Academy) it's the unfavourable reviews which caught my interest.

For example, Kate Hoit (an Iraq veteran) writing in the Huffington Post, comments, 'Bravo Hollywood; that was pure magical bullshit.'

Only time will tell whether Hurt Locker will eventually join the ranks of great war films, and be numbered among classics such as All Quiet on the Western front, Das Boot, Apocalypse Now, Deer Hunter, et al.

But, somehow, I suspect not.Madeyehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02593933575568389288noreply@blogger.com
