But instead we got Nashville and Phoenix. And we got Don Cherry, and regular fistfights. The NHL/Don Cherry route is sad for the sport of hockey, because it really can be an exciting game, as these Olympics demonstrated several times.Lost Motorcyclisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08873504561959138792noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2156536327610779049.post-83607123795959201182010-03-01T09:22:27.322-05:002010-03-01T09:22:27.322-05:00Far be it from me to rain on anyone's parade. ...Far be it from me to rain on anyone's parade. It's nice that the sports fans had a good time, but my primary feeling at this point is (along with, I suspect, most Vancouverites), 'Thank God that's over.'

There will be countless hangovers this morning, but none as severe as the financial hangover Vancouver, B.C. and, to some degree, all of Canada, will now suffer.

And, as far as those hockey rivalries, I'm afraid that I've lost interest since the 'good old days' when the championship was slugged out between actual teams of amateurs. The apex, IMHO, was in 1961 when the Trail Smoke Easters defeated the Russians.

As Churchill's adviser, Sir Ian Jacob, expressed it after WWII, the Allies won because, 'Our German scientists were better than their German scientists.' Canada won because, 'Our NHL players were better than their NHL players.'Madeyehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02593933575568389288noreply@blogger.com
