Just looking at the smoke in youtube videos is enough.

Two strokes are also disappearing from the outboard motor world. I have a 2 stroke 3 HP outboard that weighs only 35 lb. The new four strokes are quite a bit heavier, but much cleaner burning.Lost Motorcyclisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08873504561959138792noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2156536327610779049.post-18995978961591378972010-02-17T08:48:44.983-05:002010-02-17T08:48:44.983-05:00Two-stroke road motorcycles in North America were ...Two-stroke road motorcycles in North America were 'killed' because of their level of emissions. As much as 50% of a two-stroke's fuel may be exhausted as unburnt hydrocarbons (UHC’s), along with much of the lubricating oil. Carbon monoxide (CO) and particulate (PM) levels are also significantly higher than with 4-stroke engines.

Although, on a per-displacement basis, they perform better than four-strokes, the engines do not last as long, and tended to 'coke up,' with spark plug fouling a constant issue.

In fact, the very popular Kawasaki Mach IV triple even had a fitted compartment under the seat for three spare spark plugs!

Although they've largely disappeared from North American roads, two-strokes still make up the majority of road traffic in Asia. Estimates suggest that there are hundreds of millions of two-stroke motorcycles and three-wheelers on Asian roads, pumping out the emissions equivalent of over five billion modern automobiles - a serious environmental problem.

Of course, no discussion of two-strokes is complete without mentioning the infamous East German Trabant! The Trabi, of course, was the 'peoples' car' of East Germany, produced in the millions, and helping to create that sooty depressing ambiance which most western visitors to East Germany invariably mentioned.Madeyehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02593933575568389288noreply@blogger.com
