This was the period of F1 racing celebrated in John Frankenheimer's classic film, Grand Prix.

In those days, the pits were open and spectators could wander through and actually touch the cars (and drivers, if so inclined ;-) After that experience, anything else is anti-climatic.

Especially a bunch of sedans going around and around and around ;-)Madeyehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02593933575568389288noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2156536327610779049.post-1292687831927337282010-03-29T18:43:53.096-04:002010-03-29T18:43:53.096-04:00You should have checked the first hit, it was:

...Golly! Toyota is competing in NASCAR? Who knew?!

Anyhow, I was naive enough to think that the only rule for NASCAR racing was, 'Anything goes.'

So naturally I had to read up on that 'banned substance'. Turns out that there was 'an odorless, Vaseline-like substance in the car's engine.'

So, of course, I had to look up the technical restrictions on NASCAR machines, to see which rule(s) was/were being violated by that odorless, Vaseline-like substance.

Golly! It turns out that, 'rule books are published exclusively for NASCAR members and are not made available to the public.'

Anyhow ... by that point I'd pretty much lost interest in the whole thing ... just like when I watch NASCAR races themselves (which I generally do only when I'm having trouble getting to sleep).

And ... just to confirm that I'm not alone in that feeling, Google just returned close to 100,000 hits on my inquiry: why is nascar so boringMadeyehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02593933575568389288noreply@blogger.com
