(not by me)

Street bikes have high pegs mostly for cornering clearance, unlike dirt bikes, which have high pegs mostly to avoid hitting stumps and rocks.Lost Motorcyclisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08873504561959138792noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2156536327610779049.post-16836727776830859102011-02-01T00:51:41.089-05:002011-02-01T00:51:41.089-05:00Just want to point out that there is a rational be...Just want to point out that there is a rational behind leaning the bike while keeping your body upright. The theory is that if you keep your body upright you will be more able to recover from slips and slides. Of course its inappropriate to do this if leaning your bike puts it in contact with the ground

This is more of an off-road thing where the normal rules of motorcycling seem to be reversed and if you manage to drag a peg in the dirt you better let me know what tires your using!JPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02179705153802385532noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2156536327610779049.post-33475908147607704182011-01-16T10:13:35.317-05:002011-01-16T10:13:35.317-05:00You're right, some Softails have floorboards, ...You're right, some Softails have floorboards, some don't. That should be the second question to ask right after, "is your buddy Valentino Rossi".

I never used to pay much attention to floorboards. But now that I have them on my bike, I'm starting to realize how important a part of the bike's character they really are. And although they scrape early in corners, the warning is a safety feature.Lost Motorcyclisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08873504561959138792noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2156536327610779049.post-75264556566161005042011-01-16T07:53:00.054-05:002011-01-16T07:53:00.054-05:00One does not often see photographs of a spill taki...One does not often see photographs of a spill taking place. Looking cool one minute, hurting like hell the next :-(

Anyhow, your opening quotation complains that, 'one of my friends has a Harley Softail and he seems to have no problem going faster through the turns.'

Actually, that's a case of 'insufficient data.'

Honda's VTX1300 is a boulevard cruiser ... wide floorboards, scraping at relatively modest lean angles.

But 'Harley Softail' is not very specific. The FXST ('Custom') models use the thin X-type telescopic forks (as opposed to the fat FL-type forks on 'Classic' models) and are generally set up with pegs on forward controls.

With no floorboards to drag, greater lean angles are possible. So any friend on a Custom Softail is likely going to be able to get through those curves just a wee bit quicker than someone on a floorboard-equipped cruiser.Madeyehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02593933575568389288noreply@blogger.com
