Almost nothing has been done to stop people from texting and driving, other than passing a law.

The fact is that the texting and driving is a much bigger problem than the false alarm at Toyota ever was, and Toyota spent at least a thousand times as much trying to "fix" their problem.Lost Motorcyclisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08873504561959138792noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2156536327610779049.post-75174742902992551462010-11-26T11:26:36.137-05:002010-11-26T11:26:36.137-05:00What odds that the driver of that van was busy tex...What odds that the driver of that van was busy texting when the collision occurred?

There seems to be some evidence that the laws banning the use of those handheld devices are having the opposite of the intended effect.

By lowering those devices out of view of law enforcement personnel, users are drawing their eyes even further from the road, further increasing the risk of collision.

Until people start getting the message that setting oneself up with distractions while driving is socially irresponsible, the situation is not likely to improve.Madeyehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02593933575568389288noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2156536327610779049.post-22236890425321807112010-11-26T11:10:40.501-05:002010-11-26T11:10:40.501-05:00Windsor is so far south, that you have to go north...Windsor is so far south, that you have to go north to cross the border into the USA. I don't think Windsor has snow yet, and if it did have that much on the road, you would not see too many motorcycles out. I'm guessing the white stuff is foam sprayed by the firefighters.Lost Motorcyclisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08873504561959138792noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2156536327610779049.post-39711168019299366712010-11-26T10:36:02.054-05:002010-11-26T10:36:02.054-05:00Just wanted to send you a note, but didn't see...Just wanted to send you a note, but didn't see your email address. Perhaps the most dramatic and well known example is that of Easter Island, where the population essentially rendered itself extinct in the face of overwhelming evidence of the folly of their actions.

However, in our globalized economy (although individual and local action do continue to have significant effect) only effective governmental (and inter-governmental) action based on the 'depletion model' can produce the scale of change that's essential if global catastrophe is to be averted, or at least reduced.

A surprising large segment of the population of developed countries remains in denial about the reality of peak oil and global warming - a state of denial encouraged by countless energy industry astroturfing front organizations such as GlobalWarming.org). Many people will continue to 'believe what they want to believe' especially if it allows them to drive their Hummers with impunity (less in future, I suppose, as the Hummer brand has been discontinued).

One of the better comprehensive summaries of the current energy situation was published earlier this year under the imprimatur of Lloyds (yes, the 'risk' people) as a white paper on Energy Security. This represents a recognition of our exposures by the business mainstream (with, of course, the exception of those paid propagandists in the energy sector).Madeyehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02593933575568389288noreply@blogger.com
